| | | Ahhhs Vegas | | Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 9:03:42 AM by Blog57 Team | | LAS VEGAS | In my quest for the ultimate pampering experience, I pore over menus of services from half a dozen premier Las Vegas spas on my hotel bed. I ask businesswomen at the furniture trade show I'm attending for tips. I've only got three days and haven't booked a single appointment. I'm having a bad case of analysis paralysis. I can't decide on the best route to bliss. Should I try Ayurvedic rituals to balance my chakras? Ancient Turkish purification ceremonies? Or would it be better to skip the spiritual stuff and go for pure physical indulgence? Maybe a Fijian sugar-and-pineapple body polish or a fire-and-ice massage with hot basalt rocks and cold marble stones. My senses are overloaded from reading the descriptions. I decide to go shopping in the arts district to clear my mind and get advice from locals.... | |

WATCHDOG: Beating the heat from batteries | | Posted Sunday, August 20, 2006 11:08:03 PM by Blog57 Team | | You've likely noticed how warm your notebook computer, cell phone, portable DVD player or MP3 player get. That's normal because rechargeable lithium-ion batteries pack a lot of power into a small space. But you might be wondering how hot is too hot after hearing last week about exploding batteries in Dell notebook computers. Dell recalled 4.1 million notebook batteries after six incidents since December. A manufacturer defect is blamed in what is the largest-ever consumer-electronics recall. (Details: www.dellbatteryprogram.com.) More than 700,000 batteries for notebook computers (the industry no longer calls them laptops) have been recalled since 2000, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Nearly 1.5 million lithium-ion batteries used in all sorts of electronics have been recalled since 2003 after 339 overheating incidents, according to The Wall Street Journal....

John Wayne Thomson, 46, was already sought in Washington state before he apparently surfaced last week in San Bernardino County. Some investigators describe Thomson as a possible serial killer with three rape convictions and a taste for methamphetamine. San Bernardino County sheriff's investigators believe the most recent victim is Charles Hedlund, 55, a Beaumont businessman who lived in Lucerne Valley. A shirtless body believed to be Hedlund was discovered Saturday in brush next to a section of Old Route 66 in the Cajon Pass....

| | | Experts offer new grads tips on how to dress for job interviews | | Posted Sunday, July 23, 2006 1:06:48 PM by Blog57 Team | | The medical spa where the 22-year-old was hoping to land work was modern and trendy. Ventura figured it was the kind of place where a cute jacket, heels and jeans would make a great first impression. Elizabeth's mom, Linda Ventura, thought otherwise. "She freaked out," Elizabeth said. "She told me it doesn't matter how dressy they are, you never wear jeans to a job interview." Mothers everywhere, prepare yourselves for this next part. "I ended up taking her advice," Elizabeth said. "And I'm so glad I did." Ventura went to her interview in black dress pants, a crisp, white, long-sleeved shirt, and black, closed-toe heels. She wore a pearl necklace and earrings. She got the job. Elizabeth's mom can't save everybody.... | |
