A new University Mall tenant with top-of-the-line boutique items is ready to pamper shoppers of all ages. Funbags and Accessories, which opened Oct. 1, features more than 350 different styles of purses, with at least one of each style in stock. "We're always changing inventory every week," said owner Jodi Jensen. "I have many distributors so that our customers are not all wearing or carrying around the same items." Although the selection is extensive, Jensen said the one thing she's not offering her Brookings customers is big city boutique prices: "Our items won't break the bank they range from $15 to $75." Handbags, leather gloves, bracelets, rings, broaches, earrings, necklaces, hats, belts, scarves and clutch purses, are among the many items the store carries. "We even have little girls' purses and accessories," said the store owner....

At 5:00 p.m. on September 9, 2006, Roy H. Gong claimed Diane B. Wood as his bride in classy country western style. They spoke their vows before one hundred sixty guests upon the historic Klamath Ferryboat, which is docked in Stockton, California. The ceremony launched with an American Sign Language interpretation of the song, Grace Like Rain, by Todd Agnew. The performing interpreters were Eric Woolley and Myrima Morris, who are dearest, cherished friends of the bride. (Mrs. Morris also provided exceptional, wedding theme oriented, dinner entertainment, tap dancing to What Cowgirls Do, by Vince Gil.) ....

Style Matters: Shades of vegetables dance across red carpet as ...

Judie: The 58th Annual Prime Time Emmy Awards, which aired Sunday evening, was our chance to see the newest trends in hair, makeup and clothes. Evelinda: After watching more hours of red-carpet television than we care to admit (including the show hosted by Joan Rivers, who's morphing into the fourth Gabor sister after way too much plastic surgery), here are the looks of the moment. Judie: Messy hair, both in up-dos and in long, loose curls and waves, heavy eye makeup, pale lips and lots of gowns in the so-called "vegetable colors." Any color resembling eggplant or aubergine was prevalent on the red carpet. (See Lost's Evangeline Lilly or King of Queens' Leah Remini.) Add to that gowns in shades of asparagus and string beans and you have a regular stir fry. Evelinda: Special mention must be made of all the mushroom-shaded dresses....

After a Fashion

BIG D We spent four days in Dallas for the Holiday/Resort show at the Dallas Market Center ? an unforgettable exercise in fashion and culture. Whenever you hear about a small town in Texas and don't know where it is, it's a safe bet to say, "It's up near Dallas." And all of those small towns around Dallas have little stores with little buyers that go to the Dallas Market Center to buy for their stores. But it's not just buyers from Texas ? it's Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and even more mysteriously, buyers from overseas. When you hear the name Dallas, it often conjures up images of big hair. This is no joke, folks: It's big, bigger, biggest hair. Clouds of teased, damaged hair in every garish shade of blond and red, cemented into place for all eternity with gallons of hairspray....

Where the boys aren't

Every spring for 10 years we have gone away together, a group of women that can number as small as three or as large as 16. We used to call our little group of revelry-seeking travelers by a silly name that isn't fit for a family newspaper. It doesn't even fit us that well anymore -- we no longer climb on bars to dance, and drunken lawyers no longer offer to buy us bottles of Dom Perignon. And that's OK, because we're having a fabulous time anyway. Our specs for a fun weekend have grown up a little, too. Why do we go? Almost every one of us will tell you it's about a gathering of energy and a need to recharge batteries fueled by friendship. We crave a time when our only obligation is to let go and laugh really hard. We are hardly unique: The girlfriend getaway may be the fastest-growing segment in the travel industry....

No one’s innocent: Even Sorority Girls

Montana for my best friend (and former sorority sister's) wedding. Even under a significantly magnified microscope, this town would appear no larger than the tendril of a bacterial cilia. There was, quite literally, one gas station that doubled as the only bar, and tripled as the only restaurant in town.  Men with badger-tooth and bear-claw jewelry smiled absent-tooth smiles and introduced me to locals. “Coon Dog" (who had a license plate that read ‘C Dog' on his orange beater of a truck) was among some of them. This was a Montana wedding in every definition of the word. As I stuffed myself into the flounce-ifull, Pepto-Bismol, tulle-cupcake of a bridesmaid dress, I thought back over the shenanigans of the bachelorette party the night prior.    Though innocence and sororities aren't exactly synonymous by definition,  I spent two years of my youth as an arch nemesis Idaho Vandal and (gasp) a sorority girl in Moscow, Idaho....

High fashion weddings are in vogue

June is busting out all over -- with beautiful brides in floor-length gowns and grooms in elegant tuxedos. This year's bridal buzz combines weddings in picturesque floral gardens, rolling-green lawns and the serenity of romantic, flower-filled courtyards.Bursting into bloom are feminine and ethereal silhouettes that are delicately seasoned with tiny jewels, soft-lace flower petals and tiny satin-covered buttons. These dreamy gowns, created in a garden variety of sensuous fabrics like lace, taffeta, satin and flowing chiffon, come to life in Las Vegas' own Secret Gardens. On the male side, when it comes to weddings, he must realize that he will be forever captured in photographs. Pal Zileri's Cerimonia Collection has a suit that will complement the blushing bride, while allowing the groom to take some of the spotlight of the day....

Souvenirs: Gifts to give
Posted Saturday, July 08, 2006 1:04:24 PM by Blog57 Team
FOR the traditional white wedding, it is the duty of the bride and groom, to not only choose friends and relatives who will be members of the wedding party, but it is also their duty to provide, fully or partially, what they would wear on that day. But, due to economic constraints, and the willingness of friends and relatives to assist intending couples, this duty has been taken over by those willing to take on the various roles in the wedding party; otherwise known as the bridal train. It is, therefore, very important that couples show their appreciation to members of the wedding party, as well as some key players who helped make their dream day come true. However, most couples have been found wanting in this area, especially in our society, either due to ignorance, lack of funds or oversight....

EX-D-R teacher sentenced in fraud

NEW BEDFORD -- For more than two years, Heather Faria faked having a rare form of stomach cancer and used $37,000 in fundraising donations to buy jewelry, clothes and go on exotic trips. On Thursday, the former Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School special education teacher was sent to jail for two years for lying to friends and co-workers and spending the money they raised on her behalf. New Bedford Superior Court Judge Richard Chin, whose sentence was tougher than those called for in state guidelines, also placed Faria, 28, on probation for 10 years after she completes her sentence. She also must pay $37,000 in restitution. `` The most disturbing part to me was that this involved many of the defendant's students, this involved the school and the entire community,'' Chin said....
