Girl's best friends - Yeah, we're still talking about Diamonds...
Posted Thursday, February 02, 2006 2:20:31 PM by Kate Grant

Easy to transform from one place to another, wrapped in a handkerchief and hidden, diamonds were sometimes a lifeline for people fleeing from country to country.

DiamondsThe famous song sang by Marylin Monroe at the movie "Gentlemen Prefer Blonds", and I quote: "A kiss may be grand but won't pay the rental on your humble flat, or help you at the automat....

But square-cut or pear-shaped, these rocks don't lose their shape, Diamonds are a girl's best friends", made women all over the world think about diamonds in a different way. No wonder the traditional engagement ring is a diamond ring, and your husband to be is sometimes judged by the size of the diamond he got you (not by you of course, you don't mind...)

There's a certain charm about this precious stone, maybe the fact that in its raw form it doesn't look like much. But when its cut, the color and clarity are dazzling, making it look like something straight out of a fairytale.

So if there is never too much of a good thing, bring them on, all those lovely diamond necklaces, bracelets, pendants and earrings...

(AFX UK Focus) 2006-10-03 09:11 GMT: Sunrise Diamonds finds high potential kimberlite at Kaavi-Kuopio in Finland
Posted Wednesday, October 04, 2006 6:58:38 AM by Blog57 Team
LONDON (AFX) - Sunrise Diamonds PLC said it has found kimberlite at two locations in the Kaavi-Kuopio area in Finland, including fragments that suggest high diamond potential. The company said the results confirm its belief that more diamond-bearing kimberlites will be found in the area. Sunrise said further drilling is planned said at Target 295, where it said the distribution and character of the kimberlite fragments indicate high likelihood of a source with high diamond potential. It said kimberlite was also found in glacial sediments at a second location where it said indicators point to a "source of significant size". Further studies are being carried out. Sunrise also said test results on kimberlite samples from the recently discovered Lampi kimberlite in the Kuusamo cluster in Finland have been delayed by a backlog of work in the Canadian laboratories....

BOTSWANA FM: KIMBERLEY PROCESS ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF GLOBAL ...

During an address to the United Nations General Assembly, Lieutenant General Mompati S. Merafhe, Botswanas Minister of Foreign Affairs, described the Kimberley Process certification scheme as one of the best examples of global cooperation. The speech came as Botswana celebrates its 40th year of independence. Botswana has been blesses with one of Africas major natural resources diamonds. It must be stated that 65 percent of the world's diamonds, worth US$8.3 billion per year, are sourced from African countries. I am pleased to state that diamonds have and continue to do good in Botswana. The diamond industry in Botswana has been at the cutting edge of human development and transforming lives for the better, in all fields of human endeavor. We continue to prudently manage the revenue from the sale of diamonds and to effectively use such revenue to educate our people, provide potable water, health care and build a network of infrastructure such as roads, telephones and rural electricity....

Speedway: Diamonds can't topple the Kings

Title pace-setters King's Lynn pulled out all the stops over the last eight heats to send Newcastle Diamonds home on the wrong end of a 62-31 defeat in last night's Premier League match at the Norfolk Arena. Rain, which caused the abandonment of Wednesday's clash, again threatened and a track inspection took place after heat 12, but the referee ruled the match could continue. The Diamonds rode well over the first seven heats and looked like getting one of the highest scores by a visiting team at King's Lynn this season as they trailed by only seven points, 25-18. But, as light rain persisted, the home team turned the screw and collected five 5-1 race wins and two 4-2s, with only a tactical-ride second place by Josef Franc in heat 14 preventing another home advantage. Earlier, Christian Henry and Franc provided a shock for the home side by taking a 4-2 in heat three when the Aussie defeated Daniel Nermark....

AUSTRALIA'S most prestigious international jewellery fair has been rocked by the theft of at least $1.5 million worth of diamonds. An Australian jewellery outfit planning to display a collection of more than 500 of the precious stones was stunned when the security bag containing them failed to show up at its stall. Police believe the bag went missing either en route to, or at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre over the weekend, despite saturation security at the annual Australian Jewellery Fair, which attracts exhibitors from all over the world. City Central police last night said they were trying to trace the movements of the bag of diamonds and were reviewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the thieves. The stones were to be shown at one of 300 stands at the three-day fair....

Namibia: Miners' Union Unhappy With LLD
Posted Tuesday, August 08, 2006 6:58:41 AM by Blog57 Team
The Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) has expressed concern over the dismissals of many young Namibians after completing their training at the LLD Diamonds Namibia. MUN through its General Secretary Bro Hengari said while his union fully supports LLD Diamonds for its faith in Namibia and appreciates that today young Namibians are skilled with knowledge, it is disturbed by the dismissals. He noted that the MUN is astounded and astonished by the conduct of both LLD Diamonds Namibia and SAKAWE Mining. "They try to portray a picture of its excellent investment climate at the expense of the young trainees' job security who often face victimization and unfair dismissals." He said since independence and since the enactment of the Labour Act, government has tried to pursue a policy of sound labour relations through consolidation of tripartite structures, promotion of industrial democracy and developing conditions, which are conducive to investment and social progress....

The Ark City Post 18 Black Diamonds battled through a shaky start and five errors to defeat El Dorado Post 81 11-4 in the championship of the Kansas Region 4 American Legion Baseball Tournament. It was Ark City's second seven-run win in as many days as they easily claimed the first place plaque and qualified for the state tournament next weekend. Colt "C-Lo" Loehrs went 4 for 6 with five RBIs to lead the way for Ark City. Kipp Voth went 6 2/3 innings without giving up an earned run to get the win for the Black Diamonds. The Black Diamonds broke it open in the 7th against El Dorado starter Clay McKenna when the top five hitters in the lineup scored before Drew Jenkins came on for El Dorado and ended the rally. A two-run double by Loehrs and a two-run single by Jake Richardson were the key hits in the inning....
