Jewelry Boxes: the next generation
Posted Thursday, February 02, 2006 12:40:02 PM by Kate Grant

Hey you! Yes, I'm talking to you, the woman with the 1,000 earrings, bangles, rings necklaces, who wares about 20 of them... Jewelry box

You know exactly what I mean. They're usually everywhere in the house, or if you're lucky, in a big pile on your dresser or night table.

There is only one solution to the chaos: a jewelry box. If you're lucky, and have room for it in one of your dresser drawers, you can buy plastic containers designed especially for this purpose.

But if you're like the rest of us, do yourself a favor and invest in a cool jewelry box. Jewelry boxes arrive in almost any shape or color.

There are nice handcrafted ones, made of wood, that you can put on display, plastic jewelry boxes, black, white, with stripes or polka dots jewelery boxes, Italian jewelry boxes or antique jewelry boxes. What ever you like, just get one already...

A jewelery box is always nice as a birthday or a housewarming gift. And now, when we know what's you like, as it comes to jewelry, let us guess the mess at your friend's house is similar to yours... If you start early, and give your children jewelry boxes of their own, maybe the next generation won't be as bad...

Safety First: Preparation before a fire helps with recouping losses
Posted Monday, October 23, 2006 7:02:44 PM by Blog57 Team
Each year in Northeastern Wisconsin, 200 to 300 people experience firsthand the traumatic effects of a fire. Interviews after an incident reveal that most never thought the experience could be so devastating. Look around your home or apartment and imagine what it would look like completely destroyed. Your furniture, your appliances, your keepsakes unrecognizable due to the effects of flame, heat and smoke. How would you start to replace the things that you value the most? Everyday appliances and clothing are easy enough to replace. It's the heirlooms, jewelry and photo albums that can never be replaced. Prepare for the worst by taking an inventory of household items, furniture and electronics. Included should be sales receipts and warranty information....

Branch lone ex-Pat making impact

Calling them the "Fab Four" would be to overstate the case. There's no denying that they were all impact players in New England, however; a quartet that had a hand or foot in the closest thing to a dynasty the NFL might see in some time.Outside linebacker Willie McGinest, place-kicker Adam Vinatieri, and wide receivers Deion Branch and David Givens all left the Patriots during this calendar year with a jewelry box full of New England memories, owning 10 Super Bowl rings between them. While Branch's performance in Seattle's last-second victory at St. Louis on Sunday is solid proof that there is life after Foxboro, McGinest, Vinatieri and Givens all have experienced some bumps (and bruises) since traveling the road out of town. But first things first. In just his third game (and first start) with the Seahawks, Branch hauled in a team-leading six passes from Matt Hasselbeck for 76 yards, including first- and fourth-quarter touchdowns of 14 and 19 yards, respectively, and drew a 30-yard pass interference penalty as part of a drive that led to a Darrell Jackson TD as Seattle seized first place in the NFC West with a 30-28 win over the Rams.Ending a contract impasse that stretched from offseason minicamp through training camp and the regular-season opener, on Sept....

Don't Let Your Home Be Underinsured

(ARA) - With the home improvement season upon us, there is no better time than now to review your homeowners insurance to make sure you have the coverage you need. While Americans spent more than $198 billion in 2004 for home improvements and repairs, only 31 percent said they changed their homeowners coverage to reflect the increased value, according to a recent, national survey of 1,000 people by Farmers Insurance Group. Not reporting major home improvements - such as updating a kitchen or bathroom, enclosing a porch, or making an addition - to your insurance company puts you at risk of being underinsured. "Many homeowners are not adequately adjusting their policy to cover the new value of their home," says Jeff Beyer, senior vice-president & chief communications officer for Farmers Insurance Group....

OGDENSBURG ? Lois Boehl recently came across a worn steel bracelet in her jewelry box bearing the following inscription: "Capt. Dennis Chambers: 8.7.67." The name and date were very familiar to the Ogdensburg resident, who purchased the POW bracelet more than 30 years ago to support the prisoners of the Vietnam War. "I wore the bracelet for a long time," Boehl, a math teacher at Ogdensburg Public School, said as she sat in her living room. "I could never get rid of it," she said. "It was a person, not a bracelet." Until recently, the name and date of capture were the only information she had of the Air Force pilot she felt a connection to. Then she decided to research his name on the Internet. She found his name on www. pownetwork.org and discovered that Chambers, whose first name was actually Carl, was alive and a commercial real estate agent in Santa Clara, Calif....

Vintage Jewelry Pointers for Dealers The Compulsive Packer ...

The compulsive packer talks about shipping vintage jewelry. The stated goal is to hear NO sound or movement whatsoever when the package is ready for shipment so it arrives in the condition in which it was shipped. 1. Make sure the item is clean and in "as described" condition 2. Place in appropriate size zip-lock bag. Choose the bag to be as small as possible so the item is held in position. The zip-lock bag protects the jewelry from getting wet in case the package is left out in the rain or someone drops it in a bucket of water. It also will retain any stones which can fall out during the shipping process making them easier to replace. 3. Place the item in a fairly substantial cardboard or plastic jewelry box which holds the item(s) securely but is large enough for it to lie flat. Place a business card in the box....

Not long after last year's Rose Bowl, Texas safety Michael Griffin began wearing his national championship ring on a chain around his neck. It hung loud and proud, like an Olympic medal, for almost seven months. That changed the morning of Aug. 6, the day before fall practices started. "I took it off and put it back in the wooden box it came in," he said. "And I haven't worn it since." Griffin's reasoning was simple. With a new season looming, the ring bears about as much significance as a divorcee's wedding band. "It's time for a new beginning," Griffin says. For the Longhorns, this new beginning is different. For the first time in 35 years, they start a season anew as national champions....

AP Correspondent Robert H. Reid covers Iraq events from Baghdad. AP Correspondent Rebecca Santana is embedded with the New Jersey National Guard at Camp Anaconda, Iraq. Antonio Castaneda is embedded with the U.S. Marines, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Regiment. ___ FRIDAY, Aug. 11, 7:55 p.m. local HADITHA Everyone hates doing laundry. Especially when someone's firing a heavy machine gun at you. This afternoon I decided to wash some clothes. The Marines had somehow acquired four primitive washing machines that, despite being a far cry from the Maytag beast in your home, still managed to get the job done. It was a quiet, good afternoon to get a required chore out of the way. ....

Store treasures in style and benefit a cause

The shimmer of pale pink glass beads centered on 240 tiny iridescent capiz shell buttons makes Pier 1 Imports' jewelry box a perfect place to store small treasures. Inside there's a ring holder and a tray for other jewelry. Lift the tray to find a secret compartment large enough for more clunky jewelry, special pictures or even a journal. Pier 1 is introducing the unusual square jewelry box as this summer's product to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The jewelry boxes are this season's "special find," says Joy Rich, cause-branding specialist for Pier 1. "We actually introduced a similar rectangular jewelry box last summer as a pilot project. We didn't promote it, but we sold out and donated nearly $75,000 to Komen from sales," Rich said....

"Ting" of aluminum bats scares home burglar
Posted Thursday, July 27, 2006 2:58:40 AM by Blog57 Team
It was the 'ting of two aluminum baseball bats coming into contact with each other that clued a home burglar to the fact he was not alone. Randle Cunningham came home Tuesday afternoon and let his dog outside. He then walked back into his house in the 3100 block of Maury Street in Des Moines to discover a burglar in his bedroom. Officers gave the following account of what happened next: Randle reached to his right to grab a baseball bat. The baseball bats are made of aluminum. There were two bats by the door where Randle was standing. When Randle grabbed a bat it hit the other bat and made a 'ting sound. Randle looked up and saw (the intruder) looking at him. The burglar ran out of the bedroom, across the living room and went outside via a window in the kitchen....
